KidSmart empowers children in need to succeed in   school by providing essential tools for learning.

About Push for Pencils

KidSmart’s Push for Pencils, the largest drive of its kind in Missouri, is a community-wide school supply drive which takes place each August. The movement is grassroots and includes more than 150 participating businesses, 50,000+ employees and individuals throughout our community. Each year, 500,000 essential school supplies are collected, and then directly distributed, to tens of thousands of local children through the KidSmart Free Educational Supply Store and KidSmart On the Go!. More than 90,000 local, school-aged children live in poverty and often attend school without basic supplies. Since opening in 2002, KidSmart has distributed more than $54 million worth of free school supplies and educational materials to hundreds of thousands of St. Louis children in need.

Sadly, there are 90,000 school-aged children who live in poverty and attend school in high poverty neighborhoods. Many of these children face the reality of not having enough food to eat, no air conditioning in the summer, and no heat in the winter. They must often try to learn and succeed in school without the most basic school supplies: pencils, paper, markers, crayons and glue. Studies show that children who are equipped with the proper tools for school have a much better chance of succeeding. KidSmart believes every child deserves to go to school equipped to learn.

Join the PUSH today and help KidSmart equip tens of thousands of children for success throughout this upcoming school year.
